Pat's Pens & Treasures
write from the heart

Pat's Pens & Treasures began in 2005 when it was birthed through sudden inspiration. I've been running to keep up with the vision ever since.

Because this is a one woman business and I wear all the hats and run all the races, the fastest way to contact me is by email Pat@PatsPensAndTreasures.com

If you would like to know how I came to be a penmaker and woodturner, please continue to read.

A woodturner's and wood carver's exposition was being held locally. My husband had been woodturning for some time, so I thought Id like to visit the exposition, maybe even take a free class or two; that way I could understand more of his frustrations and joys. I took a class on turning a dry vase and another on making a hanging ornament. I never had so much fun in my life! When someone stopped by the lathe I was working on and asked if I'd like help finishing up, the only lathe still standing was mine. All the rest of the class tools had been packed up. I'd never noticed.

Clutching the two curved pieces of wood as though my life depended on them, I didn't have a hand free to dab at the damp corners of my eyes. (Yeah, I know this sounds sappy, but it really is true.) J Before we got home, I knew I wanted to turn wood for a living and surprising myself further, I knew I wanted my business to be called Pat's Pens & Treasures.

Now, please realize, I had NEVER seen a wood pen created. I knew there were such things, but I had NO IDEA how they were made. Until the next week, Another symposium was being held in the area and I was told at least one pen would be made. Bingo! Actually, from the back of the demonstration room, I 'saw' two pens being made. At least I now knew there were parts and glue and stuff to make things shiny. That first year was a vertical learning curve.

Now my pens are turned within a very fine tolerance. The shapes are classic,
artistic and well balanced. Woods are often sanded up to 2000 grit. The Lacquer-Wax Meld finish is one of several layers and is hand-burnished. My pens are a joy to create, to own, and to give with confidence.

How do I create your pen?

With decisions and lots of love.

From deciding between all my beautiful woods and other barrel materials
to choosing photography captions, the process of creating your pen has been
delightfully challenging. I mean, how DOES one decide when most options are beautiful?
For me every decision is all about what my eyes see and my heart feels.

The main challenge: How far can my methods and tool control take my heart?

Whether I am 'manning' a chain saw against a log, building a jig for my table saw
or contemplating a new pen shape that is only the dream of the moment,
at every step in the penmaking process, I am in love.

Emotional? Perhaps. But when you caress the beautiful burnished lacquer finish
on your pen, when  you feel empowered to write that difficult message with bold strokes of your new pen, you will share my passion.

The FAQ pages you will glimpse some of the more than fifteen steps involved in creating your one of a kind, created one-by-one, personal Artisan pen.
